INVITE YOUR FRIENDS OVER: ORGANIZE A HOUSE PARTY
House parties are an intimate way of involving and informing your friends and colleagues so that they may gain a better understanding of what is happening in Venezuela.
Ideas or Themes for Your House Party
· Host a film showing of The Revolution Will Not Be Televised
· Educate your friends about the social programs in Venezuela by downloading information from www.veninfo.org.
· Invite a knowledgeable speaker
Steps to Organizing Your House party
1. Pick a Venue. Many people choose to host their house party at their home. This creates a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, which engages the guests. Restaurants, community centers and union halls are also ideal locations to host a diverse group of potential supporters.
2. Invite Guests. Make a list of all your friends, relatives, colleagues who would be interested in hearing more about Venezuela. Invite as many people as you can and encourage them to bring a buddy as well.
3. Try not to rely too heavily on email. Follow-up your email invite with a phone call. People are busy and the more they realize that you are serious, the more likely they are to come.
Tips
**Send email invitations. There are many free e-vite websites that allow you to send an invitation and track turnout.
**Call your invitees.
**Send a reminder email or make reminder calls when the event day is coming up.
Have Educational and Outreach Materials On Hand
· You can access a lot of important information about the Venezuelan missions by going to www.veninfo.org.
· Know your crowd. Make sure you have lots of copies of relevant information for all the invitees. If you have invited a lot of educators to your house party than you should have information about the educational social programs and the achievements. For example, a union member would benefit from information about Venezuela’s stance against FTAA and NED funding.
· Download the subscriber sign-in sheet, [requires PDF] so you can sign up all the attendees who would be interested in receiving weekly news and action alerts.
· You can also download an informational leaflet [requires PDF] on Venezuela and make copies.
· If you would need any help with getting specific information or resources, than feel free to contact newsandaction (at) veninfo.org
