U.S. Sending Millions to Venezuelan Opposition Groups

Since 2002, a little-known office within U.S. AID has funnelled twenty-six million dollars to Venezuelan NGOs. A recent Freedom of Information Act request from the Associated Press resulted in 1,600 hundred pages of documentation. However, the majority of the project descriptions and even the names of organizations had been blacked out! One of the grant descriptions left unredacted was a $50,000 project to analyze the validity of the Venezuelan consitution. One can only imagine what the more secretive projects entail.

Read the AP story on the secret funding.

The Bush Administration has made no secret of its desire to see President Chavez removed from office. The Venezuelan electorate, however, continues to support their democractically elected president by wide margins.

If you believe that Venezuelans have a right to chose their leaders without outside interference, and that U.S. taxpayers have a right to know where their money is being spent please take action today!
